Harvard has announced the end of the salary freeze, however, some HAW members have reported that they have been told that they will not be given raises due to our ongoing contract negotiations prohibiting “unilateral” changes in our compensation.

To be clear, it is categorically false that Harvard is required to freeze our wages during bargaining. HAW wants all of us to get our expected yearly raise now, especially after receiving no raise or inflation adjustment since July 2024. If Harvard Admin wants to avoid acting “unilaterally”, they have the option of bargaining over raises, which our bargaining team would gladly approve. Furthermore, until our contract is ratified, Harvard is legally obligated under the National Labor Relations Act to follow past practice regarding wage increases and should continue granting yearly raises/cost of living adjustments if they have done so in the past. Therefore, admin choosing not to give some of HAW members a raise may amount to an unlawful change of our working conditions. We have clearly informed Harvard Admin of our position on this issue.

To help us fight back against this, if you have received notification that you will not be getting a raise because of HAW’s contract negotiations, please fill out this form. Responses will remain confidential, and a member of the Bargaining Committee may contact you for more information.

In solidarity,
