Once HGSU-UAW goes on strike, you may be asked to pick up work usually done by striking HGSU members. It is illegal for an employer to order you to pick up the work of striking workers that is clearly their work. 

If you are asked to do additional work during the HGSU strike: 

• Ask whether it’s required.
  • If NO then don’t do it. We shouldn’t voluntarily undercut workers taking action.
• If it’s required, ask what the consequences are for not doing it?
  • If there are consequences, then we recommend doing the work. We can file charges after regardless, if needed.
• Ask if this work is a result of the HGSU strike.
• If it was a verbal discussion, follow up the discussion with an email to your supervisor, CCing the union (harvardacademicworkers@gmail.com), explaining what was discussed. 
• The union can contact Harvard to challenge the unilateral change to our working conditions.

Harvard admins have begun asking supervisors to ask our unit members to submit their grades earlier than previously done, which is an illegal change in working conditions without bargaining. If you are asked to submit your grades early: 

• Ask whether it’s required.
  • If NO then don’t do it. 
• If it’s required, ask what the consequences are for not doing it?
  • If there are consequences, then we recommend doing the work. We can file charges after regardless, if needed.
• If it was a verbal discussion, follow up the discussion with an email to your supervisor, CCing the union (harvardacademicworkers@gmail.com), explaining what was discussed. 
• The union can contact Harvard to challenge the unilateral change to our working conditions.

In both of these cases, these are violations of labor law and we will consider filing charges against Harvard if necessary.
